The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Friday started the payout for tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) under the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP)
A total of 252 tutors from Eastern Visayas State University Ormoc Campus and 126 YDWs from City College of Ormoc will receive a total of Php 8,550, equivalent to the 20-days Tara, Basa! sessions conducted between May 19 to June 13, 2025.
Meanwhile, each parent-beneficiary received Php 4,700 for attending the 20-day Nanay-Tatay sessions.
Usec. Eduardo Punay of the Office of the Undersecretary for Innovation and Program Development, Atty. Baldr Bringas, the Assistant Secretary for Innovations, RD Grace Subong of DSWD Field Office 8 and other DSWD key officials led the payout at Camp Downes Elementary School in Ormoc City, during the Culminating Activity for TBTP beneficiaries.
Representing Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez of Ormoc City was Hon. Karen Torres-Rama, City Councilor, and leading the delegation from the Department of Education was Dr. Carmelino P. Bernadas, the Superintendent of Schools Division of Ormoc.
In his message, Usec Punay expressed gratitude to DepEd and the City Government of Ormoc for the strong support to the successful pilot implementation of the program in Ormoc City.
Meanwhile, the series of mass payouts to the remaining TBTP beneficiaries Ormoc City, Tacloban City and Samar is scheduled in the succeeding weeks.
In the region, the department has deployed a total 1,512 college students as tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) tasked to carry out reading tutorials to 5,040 learners and Nanay-Tatay sessions 5,040 parents and guardians, respectively.
