Truckloads of rice and other goods, including some 140 tarpaulins, were headed for Northern Samar yesterday. Hopefully, these relief commodities will reach the 2, 184 families in 28 evacuation centers of Catarman by today. The Northern Samar road network was blocked by the landslides and fallen trees brought by Typhoon Nona. Hence, the Allen and Lope de Vega routes were not passable as of this early morning’s report. Yet, the DSWD Field Office Eight thru Regional Director Nestor has ordered the additional hiring of more workers for re-packing, from the original 32 to 44 workers now. That way, he said, the agency will be able to serve the displaced families for a greater number of days during the relief phase. Such is part of the agency’s augmentation support role in times of disasters.
