Regional Director Nestor Ramos of the DSWD Field Office Eight issued an announcement today that his agency will be sending some 150 boxes of cereal drink for babies to three towns of Eastern Samar, and another 50 boxes for Biliran. There are also a total of 1, 000 sacks of rice due for delivery to Biliran province today.

He said the agency is responding to the call of local government units for augmentation support but reported that even then, it has already pre-positioned some 2,000 sacks of rice in the three Samar provinces before the strike of typhoon Nona yesterday.

DSWD’s field workers have reported, as of to date, a total of 6,357 families with 24,817 individuals affected by the typhoon, including those from Northern Samar province. Initial relief aid has been also extended to Northern Samar.

As of press time, there are reported a total of 6,135 displaced families with 24,204 individuals temporarily staying in 114 evacuation centers of Samar, too, and the three said provinces.

For Samar there are 59 evacuation centers with 2,372 families and 10,083 individuals; Eastern Samar, 12 evacuation centers with 1, 194 families and 3, 682 individuals; Northern Samar, 28 evacuation centers with 2, 184 families and 8, 824 individuals; and Biliran, 15 evacuation centers with 385 families and 1, 615 individuals.
