In the launching of the Save the Children – led project yesterday, August 4, 2016, DSWD Regional Director, Restituto Macuto, expressed hope that the new venture will help uplift the lives of the youth, socio – economically. Venue of the gathering was at La Rica Hotel in Tacloban City.
The DSWD Regional Director also said in his speech that it would be nice if the project will be expanded, to include out-of-school-youths as they are most vulnerable to social ills of society as drug abuse. The Furthering Youth Employment in the Philippines (FYE.Ph) project targets the underprivileged youth who are in – school and enrolled either in a technical or vocational program.
To formally close the affair, Save the Children Program Manager, Hector Tuburan, agreed to increase its coverage.
Director Macuto then cited the child organization for working with other partners in coming up with the said undertaking. Save the Children tapped Western Union Foundation to fund the project that will equip the youth with life skills such as Entrepreneurship and Employability, and prepare them for a job and be successful in the workplace.
It also linked with other national agencies like the TESDA and the DOLE, the Public Employment Service Office, and ten vocational – technical training institutions in Tacloban. These are the Asian Development College, St. Therese Educational Foundation of Tacloban Inc., Tacloban Institute of Electronics, Perpetual Help Training Institute, Inc., Holy Spirit College Foundation in Leyte, Inc., Tacloban Central Institute of Technical Studies, Inc., JE Mondejar Computer College, Asia Pacific Career College, Colegio de la Salle Foundation de Tacloban, Inc., and UNIC Training Center Corporation.
DSWD will provide support via its Sustainable Livelihood Program, in the mode of giving financial assistance to obtain pre-requisite requirements for the job.#
