DSWD – SLP F0VIII downloads P22 M to Ormoc City for CBLA; SLP skills training ongoing

ORMOC CITY – DSWD Field Office VIII’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) transfers P22 million pesos to this city for Cash for Building Livelihood Assets (CBLA) program for 110 barangays. Each barangay, with 51 beneficiaries went on 15 days of rehabilitation work on Yolanda-damaged community facilities and were given P260.00 pesos per day. The project includes debris clearing, clean-up of farm-to-market roads, coastal areas, desilting and dredging irrigation canals and river banks. Communal farming and land preparation for intercropping are also included as activities in this program.
Meanwhile, skills training s going on for some 23 Pantawid beneficiaries for Bread and Pastry Production NCII and Shielded Metal Arc Welding NCII in this city.
SLP beneficiary for Bread and Pastry Production and Pantawid member since 2011, Rhoda Melendres, 54 years old
with 11 children, happily says that she already knows how to make soft rolls, cookies, brownies, chiffon cake, among others. “Nakatabang dyud ni kay daan na ‘ko maghimo ug candies”, (This has helped a lot as I have been making candies even before) she said. Rhoda whose eldest child is 24-years old is one of the Assistant Parent leaders for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. The Bread and Pastry Production NC II is a 20-day program.
Avelina Penserga, also an SLP beneficiary for Bread and Pastry Production and Pantawid member since 2011 with 6 kids said, “Makatabang ni sa panginabuhi; extra income pud. Magamit ang NCII kung gustong maka abroad. Maka-abli pud ug kaugalingong negosyo”, (Helps with our livelihood; extra income, too. NC II can be used if one wants to go abroad. One can also open one’s own business.)
Funds for this project come from DSWD-SLP. After the skills training, tool kits are given to the trainees. These consist of a mini oven, mixing tools, weighing scale, spatula, among others. An allowance of 260 per day for 10 days is also given to the trainees if only to help them in their daily fares and to start their business.
Twenty-five-year old Charlyn Nave, with 4 kids says, “Salamat sa DSWD -SLP. Dili na mi mag order ug cakes ug mag party. Additional income na sa pamilya” (Thanks to DSWD –SLP. We won’t be ordering cakes anymore if there’s a party. This would be additional income for the family.)
The training center in this city for Bread and Pastry Production is Zenaida’s Technical Learning Center which is TESDA accredited. Salvie Panti, the center’s Registrar says that all faculty members are NCII and Training Methodology holders.
The Shielded Metal Arc Welding NCII with 62 participants, meanwhile, will have a one week lecture and another week for practicum at the VATSWES Corporation, which is TESDA accredied, as well. The participants will be trained in two batches. ###
