If they are enrolled in the regular school, the Department’s top official pointed out that Center staff should ensure that the children are not bullied by their peers, knowing that they were born without a father.

“Please check with their teachers,” she said to Regional Haven officer-in-charge, Luz Davis. The latter have earlier reported that that there are currently 10 residents, with seven dependents at their Center who are attending school. These children have mothers who are victims of sexual abuse.

The DSWD Secretary also lauded the Regional Haven for going into organic farming, for the benefit of the women, such that they will be equipped with the technical knowhow and skills when they get back to their normal lives. Said Davis, the Center is producing high – yielding variety vegetables like lettuce and broccoli, which are grown in a Green House donated by the Department of Agriculture.

On the other hand, she told Center Staff to continue with their sewing, and to cater to the needs of the Regional Haven and other centers. That way, the women will be able to earn more income.

Davis revealed that the International Container Terminal Services, Incorporated donated 16 high-speed sewing machines, including a zigzagger..
