Helen Jabon, 46 years old of Barangay New Minarog, Motiong in Samar says “Hulog ng Langit” (heaven – sent) of the DSWD’s Protective Services (PSP), specifically, the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS). Her nephew, Jestoni Jabien, 23 years old is staying with her family. The young man’s parents are both working in Manila – the father, a construction worker, and the mother, a domestic helper. After graduating from High School, he could not right away pursue for a College education. Not till Helen offered help was he able to enroll in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, major in Automotive, at the Samar State University (Paranas Campus). But with hard times, the aunt expresses that her family could hardly meet the boy’s educational needs. He is wife of the barangay captain and runs a small sari-sari store. When the Social Marketing Unit of the DSWD Field Office VIII organized last week a learning visit to the barangay, Helen, like the rest of the community folks, heaved a sigh of relief knowing that the agency could help those who are in crisis situations. In said visit, the community folks gathered round the help desk set up at the day care center funded by the DSWD anti – poverty program dubbed as the KALAHI CIDSS. Under the PSP, an indigent individual can avail of financial assistance for education, medical, transportation, or burial. #DSWDMayMalasakit
