Tacloban City – The municipality of Hernani is now ready for cycle 2 of Kalahi-CIDSS. This was announced by Mr. Jaime Eclavea, DSWD Field Office Eight Assistant Regional Director and Regional Project Manager of the KALAHI-CIDSS Project in the Region.  The announcement comes after the completion of the following 12 sub-projects as of May 28, 2011.

According to Eclavea, the ability of the municipality to meet the timelines and its satisfactory performance qualified the town for cycle 2. For cycle 2 the municipality will again receive a World Bank Additional Fund grant of 5.85 million pesos. But Eclavea clarified that Hernani town must also be ready with its equity as this is a part of the requirement for KALAHI-CIDSS implementation in any municipality.

For his part, Mayor Edgar Boco assured the Regional Project Management Office that he will personally see to it that implementation of cycle 2 will be better. To strengthen municipal commitment, the municipality approved the March 31, 2011 Municipal Inter-Agency Committee (MIAC) Resolution No. 1, Series of 2011 Confirming the Results and Agreements Reached during the Municipal Accountability Reporting for Cycle 1 KALAHI-CIDSS Project Implementation in the Municipality of Hernani.

Twelve out of thirteen barangays were able to get funding for their proposed sub-projects. The completed sub-projects are two day care centers, two drainage canals, one river control, three water systems, one water and sanitation sub-project, and three sets or 121 sanitation facilities.

As of this report, the municipality is completing the requirements for the next cycle implementation to start July 2011, next month.
