The Pope Francis Complex Home for the Poor (PFFCP) located at the Archbishop’s Residence Compound at Barangay Arado in Palo, Leyte is the newest addition to the Department of Social Welfare and Development ‘s (DSWD) partners running a private welfare agency. The project is a gift by His Holiness, Pope Francis, after supertyphoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan) ravaged many human lives and properties. The management was then handed over to the Congregation of Kkottongnae Brothers and Sisters of Jesus of South Korea. Said consultant, Alicia Advincula, former Adoption and Resource and Referral Unit of the DSWD Region VIII, the complex has five residential structures wherein one serves as home for the elderly. There are currently 24 homeless, neglected, and abandoned elderly people in this 45 – bed capacity home which has seven houseparents rendering duty on a four – day shift. Advincula bared that being an experienced social worker, she sees to it that the facilities and operations meet the DSWD standards of operating a welfare agency. The residents come as referrals from different parishes in the region. She added that private citizens/groups have been coming over to offered help, such as one couple who celebrated their wedding anniversary at the PFFCP. The most urgent need of the home are disposable diapers, Advincula added.# #DSWDMayMalasakit #Unang100ArawNgPagbabago
