The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VIII will be implementing several upgrades to the Regional Resource Operations Center (RROC) in order to modernize and improve its service to the people.

These planned improvements will place an emphasis on personal hygiene and the over-all cleanliness of the Center. Included among these improvements is the construction of a mess hall, so that workers would be able to eat away from the production area where family food packs (FFPs) are packaged. This would reduce the risk of rat infestation. Food repackers will be required to wear hairnets and to make it a habit to wash their hands regularly. Forklift designated areas will also be established, to minimize dust from getting into the FFP storage areas. Workers are also encouraged to take the initiative to clean the warehouse when they have finished their tasks.

Additional equipment will also be installed to improve the production and storage of FFPs, including a new racking system, vacuum packing machines and production tables.

These improvements were based on the best practices gained during a learning visit to Permex, a producer and exporter of canned goods. This learning visit was conducted as part of DSWD’s 1 st National Response and Logistics Management Conference held in Zamboanga City from March 5-9.

According to RROC Administrative Officer Orville Berino, “Our warehouse here in Region VIII is considered to be among the well-managed DSWD warehouses, but there is always room to improve.”
