This July saw the awarding of four more centenarians from the region who received incentives for having reached the age of one hundred years old, both from the DSWD and the local government unit (LGU) of their respective origins. Awarded recently were elderlies from Catarman and San Vicente in the Province of Northern Samar; Sulat, Eastern Samar and Motiong, (Western) Samar.

This now brings to a total of 39 awardees, as of to date, for this year alone.

Menchie Elizondo of the DSWD VIII’s Protective Services Division, however, revealed that there are nine more centenarians who will soon get the tax free Php100,000.00 cash incentive and a Plaque of Recognition from the national government thru the DSWD and the Office of the President, respectively. The amount of cash incentive coming from the LGU will vary, depending on the local government unit.

DSWD Regional Director Marie Angela Gopalan said the incentive is a means for encouragement for families to take good care of their elderly citizens such that they would live longer.

For those with centenarians in their families, please inform your City/Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers in your locality. #
