Rep. Maria Fe Abunda of the lone district of Eastern Samar expressed support to institutionalize Community-Driven Development (CDD).

Rep. Abunda pointed out three (3) reasons as to why she gives her full support to the Community-Driven Development (CDD) bill in Congress.

First, the Community-Driven Development strategy encourages ordinary citizens to be partners of the local government units in taking effective and meaningful action towards development.

The ordinary citizens are involved in the planning and execution of projects and plans of their communities.

Secondly, CDD is an effective strategy to fight corruption because it promotes transparency since ordinary citizens themselves manage the funding of projects and financial accomplishment is always disclosed to the community during assemblies and meetings.

Third, CDD targets to alleviate poverty in the poorest communities, especially the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), through fund support in implementing community-identified projects.

Rep. Abunda ends her statement with a call for other legislators to also support the bill for community empowerment and poverty alleviation.
