The Department of Social Welfare and Development Eastern Visayas provided assistance in the form of transitory family support packages to ten (10) family beneficiaries of Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) program during the simultaneous BP2 turnover and acceptance ceremony, on June 15, 2021. They come from the municipalities of Alangalang, Barugo, Burauen, Calubian, Leyte, Mayorga, MacArthur, and Tabango, all in the province of Leyte.

The family beneficiaries came from the batch returnees who arrived at the Romualdez Airport, Tacloban City, on May 28, 2021.

The transitory family support package is a Php 10,000 to Php 70,000 cash assistance given to the family beneficiaries to support their food and other basic needs during their transition period in their hometown municipalities. The amount of cash assistance depends on the assessment conducted by the DSWD Central Office in coordination with the LGUs.

Upon assessment, the DSWD may also provide livelihood settlement grants and transitory shelter assistance if the family beneficiaries do not have homes and relatives in their hometown.

The Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) program is a support measure of the government to decongest the National Capital Region (NCR) and urban poor communities and aims to achieve balanced regional development. It also assists qualified families who have decided to return to their rural provinces or hometown with comprehensive services.

DSWD, as one of the frontline national agencies assisting the BP2 municipalities, works hand-in-hand with receiving LGUs to assist and provide support interventions to family beneficiaries.
