DSWD coordinating with the families affected by the earthquake

 

DSWD is standing ready to assist families from Albuera and Ormoc City, Leyte who were affected by a magnitude 5.1 earthquake last August 23 of this year at 6:26 AM.

The earthquake partially damaged 15 houses in Sitio Panhugan, Brgy. Sherwood, Albuera; however no casualties or injured individuals were reported.

In Ormoc, it partially damaged one house in Brgy. Sumangga, and another one in Brgy Altavista. The damage in the latter barangay also included several community facilities such as the covered court, barangay hall, health center, daycare center and eight classrooms.

In Brgy. Gaas, however, the houses partially damaged by the July 6 earthquake are now totally damaged. Other barangays also reported damages to community facilities such as schools, barangay halls, day care centers and health centers.

Aside from the damage to property, two residents from Ormoc City were reported dead due to the incident. One person was hospitalized at the OSPA-Farmer’s Medical Center due to neck injury and ten people, who suffered from acute anxiety attack, were given first-aid at the Advance Medical Post at the City Hall.

Some DSWD workers/employees recently visited family members of the victims, particularly those of the two casualties, to offer needed assistance. They are continuously and closely coordinating with the local social welfare offices of the two affected areas.

DSWD has set aside 2,290 family food packs with coffee and 11,754 packs without coffee for the families affected by the recent earthquake. This relief assistance is readily available and can be provided immediately upon request. #
