Social Welfare Officer Ma. Jean Valdez (left) sharing her experiences on ESA Distribution

“Dako nga bulig an ESA para pagrehabilitate han mga damaged houses. Nagpapasalamat kami hin dako sa DSWD sa palaging maagap na suporta…thank you! Thank you so much!”

These are the words of Ma. Jean Valdez, a social welfare officer from Biri, Northern Samar which was one of the municipalities given emergency shelter assistance (ESA) after typhoon Nona hit the province on December of 2015.

The DSWD allocated P13,044,898.50  as part of ESA, to help rebuild 1,998 partially and totally damaged houses of said municipality.   Distribution was already completed early this year, it was learned.

Valdez exemplifies the heroism and the partnership that make DSWD work. Shortly after Nona struck, she worked closely with DSWD to provide aid to the people of Biri. Upon arriving from Manila, she went straight to the DSWD Relief Operations Center and requested 50 sacks of rice to be immediately released.

DSWD is proud to be working alongside such dedicated and selfless people as it continues with its commitment to provide #MaagapatMapagkalingangSerbisyo.
