A three – day caravan is happening in Maasin, Southern Leyte, spearheaded by a team from the DSWD Field Office VIII under Regional Director Restituto Macuto.

Led by social worker, Hilda Tambio, the group had a help desk set up Tuesday, February 26, 2018, at Metro Hi Per in the city. Information, Education and Communication materials were distributed, and counselling to 20 individuals were made at the help desk.

Also, the team guested at the DYDM radio station on same day. Reported social worker Josamae Duazo Merencillo, last year saw the placement of some 13 abandoned/neglected/surrendered children to prospective adoptive parents, while 12 others have been issued with an Adoption Decree and ready for placement in 2018.

The past year also had seven minors legally placed in families abroad. It was also learned that 12 cases have been issued by the DSWD with the Certification Declaring a Child Legally Available for Adoption (CDLAA) and hopefully, these children will soon find new permanent homes. Said Ma Reyschel Balase, another social worker, the DSWD discourages institutional care and gives priority to providing children with a temporary or permanent home that has a wholesome family atmosphere. #DSWDParaSaNakakarami#DSWDMayMalasakit
