Tacloban City – Recently, a fire broke out in a boarding house on Barangay 34, Juan Luna St. in Tacloban City. Based on reports received by the DSWD Social Welfare And Development Team (SWADT), the boarding house was occupied by 79 individuals – 26 of whom were directly affected (15 males and 11 females).

The remaining 53 individuals (22 males and 31 females) were indirectly affected.

The DSWD coordinated with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to monitor the situation and also to verify the data based on the information received.

Aside from the coordination and monitoring, DSWD Field Office VIII also provided 3 pouches of pop rice, 4 pouches of arroz caldo and several non-food items (1 piece plastic mat, 1 piece mosquito net, 1 piece malong and 1 piece hygiene kit) per victim.

The DSWD is currently coordinating with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to assess the victims for possible financial assistance by the DSWD’s Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU).

Aside from the DSWD assistance, the CSWDO also provided each of the 79 affected individuals, 3 pouches of Pop Rice, 4 pouches of arroz caldo, 4 pieces of corned beef, 4 pieces of pancit canton, 3 sachets of coffee and 4 pieces of sardines.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), on the other hand, provided food packs containing rice, corned beef, noodles, sardines, beef loaf, and coffee.

Currently, the victims are in need of more food and non-food items (such as laundry soap, bath soap, toothpaste and other hygiene items), clothing, beddings, blankets, pillows as well as financial assistance. ###
