The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Disaster Response Management Division were recently given recognition for its efforts towards the 2018 Gawad KALASAG Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Humanitarian Assistance.
The Gawad KALASAG is given by the Office of Civil Defense to recognize exemplary efforts undertaken by individuals, organizations, schools and hospitals for disaster preparedness and resilience.
DSWD staff contributed to this award by conducting on-site validation of qualified schools and hospitals across Region 8. These include the Biliran Provincial Hospital in Naval, Biliran and the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban City, Leyte, as well as several elementary and high schools from Barugo, Jaro, Isabel, Abuyog, Palo, Inopacan and Matalom.
As validators, they checked that these schools and hospitals passed the standards set by the Office of Civil Defense regarding disaster preparedness, including plans and equipment.
This awarding was held as part of the celebration of the Disaster Consciousness and Resilience Month.
