As of 8:00 AM today, tropical storm Ursula has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It is now estimated at 900 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and is expected to cause moderate to heavy rains in Eastern Visayas between December 24 and 25.

Currently, Eastern Samar has been placed under Signal No. 1, and the rest of Eastern Visayas may be placed under Signal no. 1 in PAG-ASA’s next weather bulletin.

This Christmas season, the Department of Social Welfare and Development stands ready for any disasters. As of today, DSWD has a stockpile of 6,416 family food packs, 563 sacks of NFA rice (50 kg each), 5,557 cans of beef loaf, 4,053 cans of corned beef, 144,644 sachets of coffee, 2,000 blankets and 6,029 malongs. All of these relief items are at DSWD’s Regional Resource Operations Section in Tacloban city and are ready to be distributed once the Local Government units request for augmentation.

DSWD staff are also alert and are prepared to render Quick Response Team duty when the need arises.

DSWD also has a standby fund of P1,477,735 which can be used to purchase additional relief items when necessary.
