Marabut, Samar — In a meeting with Marabut Mayor Percival Ortilllo, Jr.,Director Yousef Al Merag of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) delegation and Director RestyMacuto ofDISASTER Risk Reduction Management emphasized the need for permanent shelter and livelihood for the  Marabutvictims of super typhoon Yolanda.

Director Macuto reported that his office has recommended to the Kuwait Red Crescent Society the provision of an initial 100 permanent homes for the 384 typhoon victims who were rendered homeless.  Director Al Merag, in turn, urged Mayor Val to write a proposal for the housing units and submit the same to the embassy of Kuwait thru DSWD.

On the other hand, Mayor Ortillobared that they have ready relocation sites within each barangay and mentioned Barangays Pinamitinan/Sta. Rita, Malibago, Lipata, Amantillo, Ferreras, Binitiyahan, Lugero and Mabuhay as such.Marabut has 207 familiesof whom were rendered homeless.  “This is the first time Marabut was ever visited by the Arab people,” Mayor Ortillo said in his opening message during the ceremonial turn-over of the relief goods from the people of Kuwait thru the recent KRCS to the residents of Marabut, Samar.  “I am very thankful that our friends here could help us with some housing units and some boats in the near future.”

Director Al Merag, for his part, thanked the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Mayor Ortillo by saying,“I hope everybody can be helped by these donations.  These are from the people of Kuwait to the people of the Philippines”, Director Al Merag continued.

The 2nd delegation of the KRCS composed of eight Kuwaiti volunteers hasdistributedfood packs to residents of barangays in Marabut.In April 2 & 3, they delivered relief bags to barangaysin Basey, Samar.
