Today, DSWD and Kalahi-CIDSS celebrate the International Youth Day.

The United Nations declares August 12 as the International Youth Day to celebrate the achievements of the world’s youth and to encourage their participation in enhancing society. This year’s theme is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production”.

The theme is about achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It focuses on the leading role of young people in ensuring poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development.

With Kalahi-CIDSS’ CDD or Community-Driven Development strategy, the youth sector are given the opportunity and the power to make informed decisions and participate in a more inclusive participatory governance.

According to Bernie Laurente, Brgy. Sub-Project Management Committee Chairperson from San Roque, Tanauan, Leyte and last year’s Bayani Ka 2015 Awardee for Best Youth Volunteer, anyone including the youth can help reduce poverty and make a difference, “Pag-asa pa rin tayo ng ating bayan”.
