DSWD is now coordinating with the local officials in Baybay City, Leyte after a fire broke out in Barangay Sabang and Barangay Marcos, Baybay City late April of this year.

DSWD’s focal person for Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), the Social Welfare And Development Team (SWADT) Leader, and Project Development Officers (PDOs) are now coordinating with the City Social Welfare and Development Officer (CSWDO) to monitor the situation and to check on the status of the affected families.

Based on reports received, a total of 40 families (146 individuals) evacuated as a result of the fire, 34 families (119 individuals) evacuated at Brgy. Sabang Elementary School and Multi-Purpose Center, 6 families (27 individuals) at Brgy. Marcos Hall. The fire totally damaged 33 houses and partially damaged one house.

The CSWDO has extended aid in the form of family food packs, hygiene kits, malongs, and cooking utensils to the evacuees. DSWD’s Disaster Response and Management Division (DRMD) is currently assessing the situation for possible additional assistance.
