“Human trafficking is a parasitic crime that preys on the vulnerable.” says DSWD Regional Director Restituto Macuto.

Through its partnership with several non-government organizations such as Plan International, Eclipse and Terre Des Hommes and several Local Government Units (LGUs) and National Government Agencies (NGAs), the Department of Social Welfare and Development is doing its part to combat human trafficking.

Recently, DSWD and its partners celebrated the World Day Against Trafficking. The highlights of this celebration included the Liberty Parade around Tacloban City and a testimonial from Ma. Carmela Pullantes, a former victim and now an advocate against human trafficking. (see her testimonial here: https://www.facebook.com/dswdfieldoffice/videos/2109276059344341/). These partners also signed the Stakeholder’s Manifesto as a commitment to help fight human trafficking.

The activity was capped with the burning of an effigy representing human trafficking and the people who profit from this crime. (see here: https://www.facebook.com/dswdfieldoffice/videos/2109243692680911/)
