More than a year ago, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Region VIII. As a result, the Municipality of Kananga was placed under a state of calamity after sustaining heavy damages.

As part of its rehabilitation program for the families affected by the earthquake, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has downloaded a total of P23,033,100 to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kananga last April 2018. This fund was used towards the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) and for the Cash-For-Work program.

Out of this sum, P16,795,000 was used for ESA, while P6,238,100 was used for the Cash for Work program.

Based on reports received, there were 222 totally damaged houses and 2,693 partially damaged houses – a total of 2,915 damaged houses. Families with partially damaged houses received P5,000 while families with totally damaged houses received P15,000.

As of June, 2018, the LGU has already released P22,888,160 to the beneficiaries.
