Summer is ending and the -ber months are here! And with the onset of the cold months comes the rainy season.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development is preparing for any storms that might come during this rainy season. Currently, DSWD has already prepositioned both family food packs (ffps) and non-food relief items at the Regional Resource Operations Center (RROC). These prepositioned goods are ready to be distributed in case of emergencies. In line with government mandate, there should be at least 30,000 family food packs available at any given time.

According to RROC OIC Orville Berino, “We have sufficient stocks. Of course, we would like to produce more ffps in preparation for the coming typhoon months. This early, we are improving our storage facilities. We are also conducting preventive maintenance on our transport vehicles, to make sure that they are in top working condition.”

These food packs contain 6 kilograms of rice, 4 cans of beef loaf, 4 cans of corned beef and 6 sachets of coffee. These go through quality control measures to ensure that they will be fit for consumption in cases of emergency.

“Our stocks right now are going through our reconditioning process. We want to make sure that the ffps are in top quality when they are delivered.” Berino adds.

The DSWD would also like to remind that these food items are not for sale, and that there are stiff penalties for people who are caught selling these items.
