Last December, Eastern Visayas was affected by tropical depression Usman. This weather disturbance brought heavy rains; causing flooding and landslides. Based on initial reports received, Usman affected 250 barangays in 24 municipalities across the Region VIII, with 39,499 families consisting of 170,329 individuals. These numbers are still undergoing verification.

In response to requests from the LGUs, the Department of Social Welfare and Development is currently planning its disaster operations following Usman’s wake.

Currently, DSWD has around 28,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs) available. These FFPs are stockpiled at DSWD’s Regional Resource Operations Section and are ready for distribution. Aside from these packaged FFPs, DSWD also has raw materials available for the production of additional FFPs. DSWD Field Office VIII can also request for additional FFPs from the Central Office once the need arises. This is to ensure that DSWD will have enough FFPs for distribution. Each FFP box contains 6 kilos of rice, 4 cans of corned beef, 4 cans beef/meat loaf and 6 sachets of coffee.

Aside from food items, DSWD also has non-food relief items ready for distribution. These include blankets, mosquito nets, malongs, hygiene and sleeping kits.

DSWD has a standby fund of P3,000,000.00 which can be used to purchase additional relief items.

DSWD would like to remind the public that these relief items are not for sale.
