The DSWD Field Office VIII announces that it will now start conducting  pay-outs for Social Pension.

For the pay-outs that are set to begin this July, social pension beneficiaries should expect to receive their stipend of Php6,000.00. It will continue to be paid by semester.

There was a delay in the payment, following the call for nationwide re-validation of beneficiaries,  to ensure that only the rightful beneficiaries will benefit from the Social Pension. Out of 212, 186 beneficiaries, 154,320 were found eligible.

Meanwhile, DSWD has stopped downloading of funds to the local government units as it will be the DSWD itself which will handle the pay-outs.

DSWD Regional Director Marie Angela Gopalan pledged to ensure that all Social Pension beneficiaries in the region get their stipend soon.

Indigent senior citizens aged 60 and above, and senior citizens who do not have Social Security System (SSS) or the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) pension, or have no regular support from their families are qualified in the program.

Each of the social pensioners, who are senior citizens, are entitled to receive PHP500 monthly. Each will receive PHP3,000 every semester or a total of PHP6,000 annually.

It was learned that in case the pensioner dies on any day within the semester, he/she shall be entitled to receive the full amount of stipend for the semester to be given to the authorized representative.

The Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPICS) is a monthly government assistance to indigent senior citizens intended to augment their daily subsistence and medical needs. It started in 2011 through the Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.#
