Policy and Plans Division (PPD) Chief Yvonne Serrano – Abonales of the DSWD Field Office VIII was honored yesterday, February 19, 2020 in a simple farewell program that followed after the culmination of the Regional Management Development Conference (for top management officials, center heads, division chiefs and section heads) held at Aquaria Restobar in Tacloban. She will officially retire on March 11, 2020.
In said rites, visiting DSWD Assistant Secretary for General Administrative Support Services Group, Rodolfo Santos, described the retiree-to-be as an institution for her long years of service with the agency. On the other hand, DSWD Regional Director Marie Angela Gopalan wished the outgoing official good luck and cited her for the many contributions made for the advancement of the Department.
Division Chief Abonales, on the other hand, gave a response which stated, thus: “The pages of life for me has reached its heights. Its the appropriate time to turn-over the leadership and supervision to the people or individuals I have coached and supervised. With my candidness, strictness and straight forward ways, I believe and certain that PPD shall continue to deliver its targets and plans at their best, knowing their competences, abilities and attitude and behavior.
Forty-one (41) years of serving the public, two years in teaching career and 39 yrs in the DSWD are years to reminisced. Thanks to DSWD, my mentors and coaches, some passed away already, the exposures to varied trainings, seminars and conferences, travels abroad and other opportunities.
I am what I am now because of them and their inputs and my acceptance to be taught and molded to become the best person with integrity and competence. Lessons to be shared: 1. Follow instructions, policies and regulations. Its best to obey first and later things can be work out; 2. Think of the gains for personal growth, the workplace or the assignment and for the organization or agency; 3. Make your Relational and Life goals congruent, for it will make you happy and enjoy the many tasks; and; 4. Accept that significant part of your time will be spent at DSWD, this will lead healthy heart and body. Thank you everyone for making 39 yrs at DSWD FO 8 challenging and worthy indeed. ”The senior official rose from the ranks, starting with the position of Welfare Aide, then Youth Development Worker, Planning Officer, Social Welfare Officer IV, and lastly Social Welfare Officer V, concurrently holding the position of Policy and Plans Division Chief.
