DSWD Undersecretary Aimee Torrefranca-Neri, together with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Director Lord Byron Torrecarion and Assistant Regional Director Rey Gozon, Northern Samar Social Welfare and Development Team (SWADT) Leader Nena Getalado, as well as staff from Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, recently conducted an assessment of the damage caused by typhoon Ambo in Northern Samar. Through the assistance of the Philippine Air Force, the team was able to conduct an aerial survey around Catubig, one of the most heavily -affected LGUs in the province. According to Usec. Neri, “Personal po akong pinapunta dito ni President Duterte at Senator Bong Go… para siguraduhing makapagbigay ng tulong ang DSWD sa inyo.”

Using funds from its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), DSWD distributed P3,000 as Emergency Assistance to 17 families in Catarman and 269 families in Catubig. Over-all, DSWD was able to provide P858,000 in assistance to these families.

Meanwhile, DSWD Field Office VIII had already distributed 8,947 Family Food Packs (FFPs) in the province in response to Ambo – 500 in Lavezares, 130 in Rosario, 2,989 in Catubig, 1,500 in Gamay, 1,000 in Lapinig, 2,100 in Las Navas and 728 in San Roque. Over-all, DSWD has distributed relief items worth P4,912,529.29.
