Recently, Barangay Malbog in the Municipality of Tolosa, Leyte was placed under community lockdown after a resident tested positive for COVID-19. With 37 over-all cases of COVID-19 in the municipality, Mayor Maria Ofelia Alcantara placed the barangay on lockdown to mitigate the spread of the virus, and to allow easier contact tracing.

At the request of the municipality, DSWD recently released 702 Family Food Packs (FFPs). DSWD loaded these FFPs into trucks dispatched by the LGU, and were immediately transported to the affected barangay, with 351 households having Level 1-3 contacts. Each FFP contains six kilos of rice, six sachets of coffee, cereal drink and assorted canned goods such as corned beef, meat/beef loaf, sardines and/or tuna. Each one is sufficient for a family of five and can last for two to three days.

As the Food and Non-food Item (FNFI) Cluster Head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), DSWD continues to ensure that municipalities affected by disasters, including this pandemic, have access to relief items. DSWD ensures that the agency is always ready to provide these relief items once requested by the LGUs.
