Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 8 turned over a Php 4.6-M isolation facility with amenities to the municipal government of Silago, Southern Leyte on October 21, 2020.

One of the community volunteers, Nesario David, emphasized in his testimony that DSWD through its Kalahi-CIDSS program has imbibed Filipino Bayanihan value. The re-awakening of the Bayanihan spirit was instrumental in getting the projects done on time .

Rey Vaziil Valerio, also a community volunteer, shared how the program trains communities to be equipped with skills and knowledge in implementing projects, saying that “ordinary citizens have a responsibility in their local development and this is what Community-Driven Development (CDD) is all about.”

In his message during the ceremony, DSWD Deputy Regional Program Manager Gerardo Peneda acknowledged the support and effort of barangay and local government units and community volunteers to realize the project.

Further, the facilities were a retrofication or enhancement of the municipality’s old building, with a funding support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Kalahi-CIDSS program.

The isolation facilities, which has two separate sites at Barangay Tubod, will benefit 15 barangays of the said municipality.

Each room in a facility has amenities such as an electric fan, bedsheet, bedding, trash bin, and sanitary items, etc. The toilets are located outside the facility.

There are also separate laundry area and kitchen space for frontliners to offer home-like service to returning residents.

To date, the isolation facility already accommodated 43 Locally Stranded Individuals, in batches.

The community-identified isolation facility with amenities are DSWD’s assistance to LGU in mitigating the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in the municipality.
