Community residents in Mapanas, Northern Samar collectively built an isolation facility made up of container vans, part of the Php 5.9 M fund support of the DSWD under its Kapit-Bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) program

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (MDRRMO) Joe Louis Gajutos said in a statement on Friday that “communities decided to purchase 20-unit container vans in order to build an isolation facility faster but still as safe as the isolation ward”, promptly responding to the rising COVID-19 cases in the province.

The facility is designed to have four (4) units as stations for the local and medical front-liners. Meanwhile, 16 units are for locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and confirmed and probable cases, separately. Each unit has two rooms with proper ventilation, bed, chairs, trash bin, etc.

Municipal Mayor Francis John Tejano stated that local government units work closely with the national government in responding to the pandemic as well as the socio-economic needs surfacing in its aftermath. “DSWD is one of the national agencies that help us out not only during this crisis but also at all times, and we are forever grateful for its support.”

He also added that the LGU extended local part contribution to building the isolation facility, and already approved Php 1.5-M fund for its enhancement before its official turn over within November this year.

Further, the LGU and communities plan to use the container vans as evacuation centers once the pandemic is over.
