Four residential care facilities for children and women in Region VIII are on their way to becoming Centers of Excellence, as it continuously upgrades its facilities to protect the welfare of the vulnerable population in the locality.

The centers are also being enhanced according to the needs of the times; hence, COVID – responsive.

Not only private welfare agencies but DSWD – run centers are being accredited to ensure that it meets the set standards on Social Welfare and Development (SWD) programs and services that are being delivered to their clients.

Regional Center Coordinator, Gina Ogay, told that plans for the current year include the construction of isolation facilities and the improvement of existing ones. Funds earmarked for the purpose is Php4M, Ogay added, in a meeting held yesterday at the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) at Barangay Sto. Nino in Tanauan, Leyte.

Region VIII has the RRCY and headed by Georgina Bulasa, Home for Girls by Delia Aguirre, Regional Haven by Merne Gadin, and the Reception and Study Center for Children under Nida Jusay. All of the three institutions are located at the DSWD Institution Complex in Pawing, Palo.

This year’s anniversary celebration has for its theme, “DSWD @70: Kabalikat ng Mahihirap” sa Panahon ng Pandemya,” #
