The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VIII concluded its month-long celebration of the agency’s 70th Anniversary with the theme “Kabalikat ng Mahihirap sa Panahon ng Pandemya” through the Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) awarding ceremony held today (March 19) at the Oriental Hotel Leyte.

The PRAISE recognizes the excellent service and remarkable contribution of exemplary DSWD employees and units in the Field Office. It is designed to encourage creativity, innovation, efficiency, integrity, and productivity in the public service by recognizing and rewarding officials and employees’ extraordinary acts or services that lead to the Department’s achievements of its goal and strategic initiatives.

The Regional PRAISE Awards for the group category went to Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (Best Operations Office Award), Regional Information, Communication and Technology Management Section (ICTMS) for Best Support Office Award, and Crisis Intervention Section (Best Crisis Intervention Unit Award).

In addition, the Pantawid Pamilya Program was also awarded Best Knowledge Management (KM) Initiative Award for its creation of a Unified Monitoring and Evaluation Tool (UMET).

In the Individual category, PRAISE awardees are Marvin Taliptip (Gawad Huwaran Award),
Maria Charyl Manlos (Best Community-based Social Worker), Nechel G. Panao and Roberto Bacuñata (Gantimpala Agad Awardees), Natividad Sequito (Best Division Chief), and Febie Palines (Best Technical Social Worker). Palines, who grabbed the 2020 Praise National Awardee for Best Technical Social Worker, gave her acceptance speech. Palines, as the 4Ps Provincial Link for Eastern Samar, said in her speech that “connection” is the key to a harmonious workplace.
Meanwhile, Administrative Division Chief Clarito Logronio was also recognized for being the 2020 National Gawad Kalihim Awardee.

Under PRAISE awards is also the Loyalty Award conferred to employee or official who completed ten (10) years of continuous and faithful service in the agency. Recipients of Loyalty Award for 10 years are Annie R. Faron, Nena L. getalado, Irene A. Permejo; Ma. Jesus Gatdula and Bece Olverio for 15 years of service; Marissa Nartea for 25 years; Benjie Pelen, Leilani Jocano, Nilda Jusay and former DSWD F08 Regional Director Restituto Macuto for 30 years. Assistant Regional Director for Administration Marlene Kahano also received the Loyalty Award for her 35 years of dedicated service to the agency and the field office.

Special Recognition was also given to offices that have been conferred with accreditation.
The Regional Haven for Women and Regional Study Center for Children (RSCC) were recognized for attaining level 2 accreditation. Meanwhile, the Human Resource Management and Development Division (HRMDD) also received the glass seal and certification for attaining the PRIME-HRM Level 2 Maturity and the PRIME-HRM Bronze Award.

During the awarding ceremony, the Field Office also recognized those employees who have completed their post-graduate degrees and have put efforts to hone their craft to improve their respective careers in the last three years.

Retirees in 2020 were also honored and awarded with a simple token in recognition for leaving a rich legacy of dedicated service to the department and Field Office.


Among the retirees was former Social Welfare Officer V and former OIC-Regional Director Yvonne Serrano Abonales. Abonales gave an inspirational message that encourages DSWD officials and employees to stay motivated and purpose-driven in doing their duty as public servants, especially in these trying times. #DSWDMayMalasakit #fo8isgreat #onedswd
