KANANGA, Leyte – “Kung kaya ng isang babae, kaya rin ng mga lalaki na gawin ang mga gawaing bahay,” said Pantawid Pamilya beneficiary Jose Francisco Caintoy as he shared his learning on gender equality during the culmination ceremony of the 6-month CSSP or Child Sensitive Social Protection parenting session.

Caintoy is among the 171 male attendees who completed the said parenting session spearheaded by Save the Children Philippines – active Civil Society Organization (CSO) – partner of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in the region.

iHELP, also an active CSO partner of Pantawid, trained parent leaders and beneficiaries who served as facilitators after completing rigorous training in conducting the modular sessions.

The parenting session is composed of 11 sessions and 4 home visits. It started last October 2020 up to March 2021 wherein parents learn ways to improve their relationship with their children, have more enriching interactions, positive disciplining strategies, empathy, gender transformative parenting, family budgeting, and savings.

As an offshoot of the training, participants organized themselves into different family support groups (FSG) that everyone can rely on. These FSGs will become a platform to sustain and continue their learning; it will be their support group where they can share their experiences, difficulties, and challenges in their own family lives. Their culmination ceremony was held last May 4-6, 2021.

The said CSSP complemented the Kilos Unlad Case Management Framework of the Pantawid Program as it prepares household beneficiaries to improve and sustain their level of well-being towards becoming self-reliant, for their eventual exit from the program.

4Ps is a poverty reduction strategy of the national government with DSWD as the lead agency. Household beneficiaries are entitled to receive cash subsidies provided that the conditions on health, nutrition, and education are followed. This will foster necessary behavior for parents to adequately perform the duties and responsibilities, particularly in investing in their children’s future. ###
