Represented by DSWD Regional Director Grace Subong and Major General Pio Diñoso III, DSWD Eastern Visayas and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) recently signed a revocable permit, allowing DSWD to use the Army’s barracks in Camp Lukban, Catbalogan City as a strategic warehouse for the initial prepositioning of 3,000 Family Food Packs (FFPs).

DSWD already has prepositioned FFPs in Allen and Catarman, Northern Samar, through a partnership with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), respectively. It also has prepositioned goods in Can-avid municipality and Borongan City, all of Eastern Samar, through a partnership with the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU).

Through this strategy, DSWD will be able to respond faster to the requests of disaster-affected LGUs. According to DSWD OIC-Regional Director Grace Subong, “while transporting goods from our regional warehouse in Palo, Leyte, we can use these prepositioned goods as an initial response to disaster-affected Local Government Units within the area.”

Meanwhile, the AFP pledged its continuous support to DSWD as part of their Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) mandate. Maj. General Diñoso said, “we will make all our resources available to you – our trucks, facilities, and even our manpower. Whatever resources we have, we will share.” Currently, the Army is one of DSWD’s partners in the delivery of FFPs to typhoon Bising-affected LGUs.
