The residents of Barangay Inasuyan in Kawayan, Biliran affirmed positive change in their community with the newly-rehabilitated 259 linear meter road. The road is built through the support of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Before, people would just walk or pass by the slippery and muddy road, especially during rainy days, to deliver their fishery products. With the better road condition, service trucks can now enter, allowing faster transportation to carry fishery products to the market. The faster transport resulted in better pricing at the market.

Fishing is the primary source of income in Inasuyan, with 39.94% of the community’s households working as fishermen. When the pandemic hit, most of the households rely on fishing for a source of income. Thus, the project was prioritized by the community.

Further, the better road conditions offer a safe path for residents, especially pregnant women, children, and the elderly.

DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS Field Office VIII official turned over on May 27, the said barangay road to Barangay Inayusan. The turn-over ceremony was attended by the Municipal Executive Assistant Jake Espina, the barangay Local Government Unit, and community volunteers.

he project was completed thru a Php 3 million fund support from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Kalahi-CIDSS, thru its Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB), implementing the Community Driven Development (CDD) strategy.
