The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Eastern Visayas conducted Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) Turnover, and Acceptance Ceremony on June 15, 2021. The activity was simultaneously conducted in the municipalities of Alangalang, Barugo, Burauen, Calubian, Leyte, MacArthur, Mayorga, and Tabango, all in the province of Leyte.

The activity was attended by the Municipal Inter-Agency Committees (MIAC) headed by the Local Chief Executives (LCEs), and family beneficiaries from the abovementioned municipalities. The symbolic turnover and acceptance ceremony aims to formally endorse the BP2 family beneficiaries to their receiving LGUs, which expressed their acceptance to these returning families.

Also present in the activity were the Balik Probinsya , Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) program regional interagency committee, including National Housing Authority, National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Education, and among others.

Meanwhile, DSWD also forged partnerships through memorandums of agreement (MOA) with the LGUs and their respective eligible family beneficiaries. These partnerships will enable the DSWD and the LGUs to work closely in assisting and providing support to the family beneficiaries during their transition period in the hometown municipalities. The MOAs will help them in settling-in in their community and provide them with much-needed services or assistance.

OIC Regional Director Grace Subong called for unity, support, and commitment among the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) cluster committees and Local Government Units (LGUs), and family beneficiaries to make this program successful.

DSWD also distributed assistance in the form of a Transitory Family Support Package to assist the families’ food and other basic needs during their transition phase in the municipality.

The Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-Asa (BP2) program is an initiative of the government to decongest the National Capital Region (NCR) and urban poor communities and aims to achieve balanced regional development. It assists qualified families who have decided to return to their rural provinces or hometown with comprehensive services.

DSWD, as one of the frontline national agencies assisting the BP2 municipalities, works hand-in-hand with receiving LGUs to assist and provide support interventions to family beneficiaries.
