The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII, through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS), provided food assistance or family food packs to 29 eligible family beneficiaries of the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) program. The Beneficiaries arrived in batches on May 28, and June 4, at Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City.

Rojan Dulcera, one of the principal program beneficiaries, thanked the DSWD for the food assistance that sustained them during the first few days of their transition back to the province from living in Manila for seven (7) years.

Dulcera, together with his wife and daughter, availed for the BP2 program, in hopes to start a new life in their hometown at Buruaen Leyte.

“Life in Manila was the hardest most especially when pandemic took hold in our country. I did not have permanent work back in Manila. My part-time job at construction sites would not be enough to sustain the daily needs of my family thus, we decided to register for Balik Probinsiya, Bagong Pag-asa.”, he said.

The DSWD, as one of the national agencies assisting BP2 families, will also provide a Transitory Family Support Package, a Transitory Shelter Assistance, and a Livelihood Settlement Grant (LSG) to eligible BP2 families.

The DSWD will provide these support services once the family beneficiaries have settled in their rural provinces, and once the receiving Local Government Units officially entered into a memorandum of agreement with the agency.

ABOUT THE BP2 PROGRAM

The Balik Probinsiya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) program is a government support measure to decongest urban poor communities. It assists qualified families who have decided to return to their rural provinces or hometown with comprehensive services.
