The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII, thru its KALAHI-CIDSS program, continues to provide funds and technical support in implementing COVID-19 community-based response projects among target municipalities in the region.

The program will cover 126 municipalities, consisting of 3,454 barangays , across the region, starting this year until 2023. The three-year implementation is financed under the additional financing from the World Bank.

The program continues to make use of the Disaster Response Operation Procedure (DROP), a mechanism introduced and utilized by the KALAHI-CIDSS to accelerate program implementation in times of proclamation of disaster or crisis.

With the use of DROP, LGUs and communities will plan and decide projects that will help them address the effects of, and respond to needs brought about by the continuing COVID-19 health emergency. These include the construction of Ligtas COVID centers, construction or rehabilitation of isolation and quarantine facilities, procurement of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), and cash for work projects, among others.

DROP will also facilitate the institutionalization of Community-Driven Development (CDD); streamlining the activities and process of the CDD approach to local government planning processes.

The institutionalization of CDD will enhance the capacity of LGUs to mobilize local response to development challenges and future disasters through participatory local development planning and investment programming.

DSWD Field Office VIII has started conducting a series of social preparation activities to the 126 target municipalities.
