The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII participated in the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) Mini Caravan, on August 27, 2021 at the Gymnasium, Brgy 12-Palanog, Tacloban City.

The activity served as an avenue for the different participating government agencies and sectors to bring awareness and provide their respective programs and services to over 400 urban poor residents of the said barangay.

The caravan was led by the PCUP’s Field Operations Divisions for Visayas (FODV), headed by Niel Victor Saril, Chief of Operations for the Visayas cluster. On the other hand, Romeo Jandugan, Supervising Commissioner of Visayas, and Alfred Romualdez, Local Chief Executive of Tacloban graced the activity.

At the activity, DSWD, through its Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU), distributed financial assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), to at least six (6) clients from the nearby barangays of Palanog. The provision of cash aid amounted to a total of Php 24, 000.

Further, DSWD, through its Social Marketing Unit (SMU), set up a desk to distribute various Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and respond to the concerns and queries from the participants.
