DSWD Field Office VIII held a ground-breaking ceremony yesterday, January 8, 2024, for the construction of the multipurpose satellite warehouse in Allen Northern, Samar.

The PHP 40 million multipurpose satellite warehouse is designed to store essential food packs and other relief materials, ensuring swift and efficient aid distribution during times of need. It will be equipped with office space, staff quarters, and can accommodate around 30,000 family food packs.

“This [project] will be translated into thousands and thousands of families who will be benefiting from our relief goods,” said Regional Director Grace Subong in her message.

Meanwhile, the local chief executive of Allen, Northern Samar, Mayor Joey Suan, expressed gratitude, emphasizing the warehouse’s crucial role in enhancing the community’s disaster response, especially during disasters.

“Sa pamamagitan ng proyektong ito, mas mapapadali ang pagbibigay ng tulong sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo o iba pang disasters sapagkat hindi na kailangang ibiyahe pa ang mga relief goods galing sa ibang probinsya,” said Governor Edwin Ongchuan in a message delivered by Vice Governor Clarence Dato.

Also present during the groundbreaking ceremony were Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Assistant Regional Director Rey Guzon, BGen. Efren Morados, PDRRM Officer Josiah Echano, MLGOO Lindy Lipata, along with the municipal heads of the Local Government Unit of Allen and other DSWD staff.
