DSWD E.Visayas completes 477 subprojects
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Eastern Visayas, through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services National Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services – Additional Financing (KALAHI-CIDSS NCDDP – Additional Financing), has already completed 477 community-identified subprojects in 55 out of 116 target municipalities across the region. An additional 283 community subprojects are set to be completed before the end of 2022. Most of these completed subprojects include the construction of access roads, sea walls, river control structures, quarantine and isolation facilities, evacuation centers, and various cash-for-work schemes, among others. As the government’s primary Community-Driven Development (CDD) program, KALAHI-CIDSS ensures that communities are empowered to identify, prioritize and implement community subprojects that are most appropriate to their needs. Meanwhile, the 61 remaining municipalities are currently finalizing their Request for Fund Release and projected to carry out their own respective community subprojects in the last quarter of 2022. DSWD Eastern Visayas Joins DepEd’s 2022 Oplan Balik Eskwela Convergence Meeting and Press Conference
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Eastern Visayas joined the Interagency Convergence Meeting and Press Conference spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepED) Region VIII in line with the joint Brigada Eskwela and Oplan Balik Eskwela 2022 at DepEd RELC NEAO Training Hall I, last August 12, 2022. DSWD Regional Director Grace Subong shared the agency’s pledge of taking part in the inclusive goal of promoting the right of every Filipino, specially the vulnerable sectors, to quality, equitable, culture-based, and complete basic education, through its various programs and social services including the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). Republic Act No. 11310 or the 4Ps Law is a national poverty reduction strategy and human capital investment program of the government which provides conditional cash grants to qualified indigent families for a maximum of seven years for the education, health, and nutrition of their children aged 0-18 and provides support to the latter so they can reach a self-sufficient level of wellbeing. LOOK: DSWD Eastern Visayas – Quick Response Team has distributed Food and Non Food Items to the affected family of a fire incident in Dagami, Leyte. The affected family received three family food packs and one piece each of hygiene kit, family kit, sleeping kit and kitchen kit. Per report of Dagami Fire Station, the fire incident occurred in Barangay Cabariwan, Dagami, Leyte at 08:10 PM on July 27, 2022 but was only reported to BFP on July 29, 2022. The fire burnt a one-storey residential house made of combustible materials, caused by an open flame from a kerosene lamp. The family was attending the wake of a relative when the fire took place. LOOK: In line with the celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month, DSWD Eastern Visayas conducted a three-day workshop on Humanitarian Supply Chain Management Course at Eastern Visayas State University Main Campus, Tacloban City last July 26-28, 2022. Participants completed a total of 14 modules which include Disaster Response Context and Legal Framework; and Management of Procurement, Production, Transport and Distribution, among others. Humanitarian Supply Chain Management are activities on planning, sourcing, and logistics for the efficient and effective movement of goods from the point of origin to consumption in order to lessen the suffering of the vulnerable population during disasters. #BawatBuhayMahalagaSaDSWD
DSWD Otso Joins 44th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week celebration
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII, through its Persons with Disability (PWD) Program, extended full support to the recent celebration of the 44th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week through various activities to create public awareness and promote the rights of the PWDs in education, employment, and livelihood. This is for the improvement of their economic condition and further enhance their integration into the mainstream society. One of the said activities is the Organizational Meeting of the Eastern Visayas Regional Federation of Persons with Disabilities at the DSWD FO VIII Conference Room, Palo, Leyte, wherein DSWD FO VIII Assistant Regional Director Natividad Sequito shared an inspirational message and provided directions to the implementers and stakeholders. Moreover, PWD Program focal person Ben Calzado discussed updates on government programs specially the salient features of various laws supporting persons with disabilities. Meanwhile, Standards Section Jestoni Gallardo shared on the Administrative Order relative to the Registration, Licensing, and Accreditation of Civil Society and Peoples Organizations. Department of Health (DOH) Regional Office VIII representative Marvyn Mendoza discussed the Online Registration System updates in compliance to Republic Act 11228 providing for the mandatory Philhealth coverage for all Persons with Disability. Another highlight is the distribution and awarding of assistive devices in San Jose, Northern Samar. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII recently awarded a centenarian cash gift amounting to Php 100,000.00 to Lola Felisa, in Silago, Southern Leyte. DSWD represented by Menchie Homeres, a Centenarian program staff, personally delivered the incentive to the house of Lola Felisa. Meanwhile, Local Government Unit (LGU) Silago, headed by Municipal Mayor Lemuel P.Mayor, also witnessed the awarding activity. Further, LGU awarded another Php 100,000.00 to the recipient. Lola Felisa received a total amount of Php 200,000.00. Lola Felisa is said to be the first recorded centenarian in the municipality. #BawatBuhayMahalagaSaDSWD
